Julia (Egan) BUCKLEY (1865 – 1943)

Julia, the first daughter and first surviving child of John EGAN and Mary Teresa DESMOND, was born 28 April 1865 at Lehinch Town where John was posted as an R.I.C. sub constable.

In 1901 Julia was boarding with the SPILLANE family and five other boarders, on York Street not far from her family home on Cork’s north side.

Julia was a civil servant, working as a telegraphist.

In 1904, aged 39 years, she married a fellow worker, Thomas Francis BUCKLEY, who was five years younger than her.

They had one child, a son, Patrick Vincent BUCKLEY in 1906.

In 1911 they lived in Haggardsland, Bishopstown, a south west suburb of Cork city.

Julia died in 1943, 24 days short of her 78th birthday.  Cause of death was senile decay, cardiac failure.

Husband Thomas died 14 years later at “Lissadell” on Magazine Rd.

There is no record of a will for either Julia or Thomas.

Patrick Vincent BUCKLEY (1934 – ?)

Julia’s son Patrick was a motor mechanic.  He married Annie Deasy on April 14th, 1934.

One of the witnesses was James EGAN.  Could this have been his uncle James, or perhaps a a cousin?

Two boys and three girls were born to (a) Buckley and Deasy couple/s between 1935 and 1949.

I have found no record of Patrick’s death. A family tree shows Annie (Deasy) BUCKLEY as having died in 1982 in Cork.
